2008 Z06, had motor work done and LG headers installed. It looks like the shop ran the origional brake lines on the left (drivers) side of the car between the headers and the body, 1/2 inch or so and put a silver heat material around it. Driving yesterday, the headers got hot, melted the heat wrap and melted the line causing a pin hole leak. There is an indentation in the body where the line could have been bent and run along but I guess they thought the insulation would be good. So, do I need new lines from front to rear or can they cut before the burned part, join a new section with bends through the indentation area and then to the ecbm? It looks like the lines go above the heat plate and the exhaust and plate would have to be dropped to replace the entire line... Thanks
that is most likely the clutch slave - master cylinder line. If that melted on the slave side of the coupler that is a very expensive mistake, the transmission will require removal. You can take advantage and upgrade the clutch and install a Tick speed bleader. The other end is attached to the master, you can also upgrade to a Tick master cylinder.
Called the shop and going back in, truckplay, I'm pretty sure it's the brake lines, I followed the from the back wheels, along the body, past the headers and to the EBCM. I'm sure it won't be cheap, but my wallet needs a break after all the motor and exhaust work recently done... Thank You, Jeff
Here are some pictures, there are 2 lines, stainless together, and they run into the body along the driveshaft on the drivers side. It appears forward of the headers they go up to the EBCM. Not sure where the clutch line is in reference to these... Pictures 5939 and 5940 are where the lines come along the body, one line above the other. This is along the body. They go to the front along the headers...
If you look at your picture Tim, it's the aluminum covered lines that are just to the right of your orange washer on the suspension. In your photo it looks like you have something between the header and the lines, but I can't make out what it is...

I was just trying to show that the headers don't go near the brake lines to the front brakes.
I appreciate that... Beautiful car you have there! Do you think its the brake lines or is the clutch line in there also?
I have a lift in my garage, so when I get out of the office later today, I will lift it and look. Know that I have a better idea, I bet it is the line going to the rear brakes.
Thanks, just hopeing and praying its the brake lines... Can you look to see if there is anything running down through the indentation in the body... Its along the body and looks like an old thermostat gasket shape with a hole on either side. It looks lime a perfect place to run the lines along to give more distance between the headers and lines.Appreciate the help, car goes in next week, I want to set up my garage like yours...
I just looked at it does appear to be a brake line that runs to the back. It end up above the tunnel plate. I have B&B headers and they clear OK, but I never realized how close one of the rear brake lines to headers.
