This morning I started out and noticed that my voltage had jumped to 16.2 volts. My mild to wild switch opened on its own and I had the following error messages: ice possible (80 degrees) check active handling and the air bag light for the passenger seat came on. Would the the high voltage surge cause this issue. After a few miles the voltage dropped to 14.0 volts and then fluctuated back to 16 volts. I believe the voltage regulator may be the culprit but is there anything else that would cause this such as a body control module. If it is the voltage regulator I know how to make that repair. My other question concerns the Cartek Tensioner for the alternator. (Have ECS Direct Drive for my Supercharger) How does one remove the alternator with the tensioner attached. It looks like it might be an easy task just not sure as to what to do. Thanks in advance for any help generated.
A defective battery generally will not cause a high voltage situation, low voltage yes, along with all kinds of weird problems.

The alternator will try to put out enough current to keep things going, so the gauge would show high output. If the battery is worn out, the paste will fall off the plates and end up on the bottom of the container causing intermittent issues.

The problem has not presented itself again. I have a yellow top Optima batter approx 7 months old. There were no trouble codes generated. I will let you know if it occurs again and my solution for the problem. Thanks for your assistance.😃
