Hi
My 96 had the Z-51 and 3:15 rear
My 02 has the same
Now my 05 will also have the same.
Question is there really a noticeable diff between having both the Z-51 and 3:15 and not?

You overlooked the part that all the cars had both the A4 trans (it's an automatic) and the Z51 option also had 3.15 gears. His question is about if there is a significant difference between that and an '05 A4 without the Z51 and 3.15 gears. At least that's how I read it.
There was never a mention of a manual trans with 3.42 gears, except from you.

My understanding is that all automatics had 2:73 gears. I did take my meds becasue I waited two months and order my C6 in September of 2005 becasue of the junk diff and old computer of the 2005. I guess the 2005 automatics have 3:15 gears becasue they also have the C5 transmission.

Right now I will have to be ok with the 05 and if it serves me for 2/3 yrs then I can move up to the c7 with very little loss.

3:15's were the performance axle option on the Z51 A4's.
