Default Z-51 difference

Hi

I am hunting for a 2005-09 vert auto with Z-51 package and there is slim pickins out there in the condition that I want with low miles.

Since I do not race or drag but enjoy the handling would I miss the Z-51 package. My last two vettes had the Z-51 so I am used to it and the C6 z-51 package gives you a lot in their package.

A penny for your thoughts.

Alan

You could get a base and swap out the swap bars, shocks and springs or just the shocks and sway bars.

Glen is spot on, most everything can get upgrade for very little money, or you can just buy the T1 kit from GM and have an even better car!

You may want try looking for a car in the north. Most people don't them during the winter, so there are more low mileage in Michigan than Florida.

Aftermarket shocks would be a big improvement over any oem shock and sway bars are easy, whether you go aftermarket or Z51. If you are not racing, you won't miss any of the other items. I like the gear ratios in the base/Z06 trans better than Z51 anyway.

My 2006 convertible with Z51 is for sale, and everyone who sees it thinks it is a new car. It's in the for sale section.
I love the way it rides. I think a Corvette should have a firm ride without the body rolling over in the corners.

What about the cross drilled rotors, 3:15 rear oil coolers and the other coolers?

05 with A4 and Z51 doesn't have oil, transmission or steering coolers. It does have the 3:15 rear though.

Sorry Alan I have a Z51 A6 no engine oil cooler or Diff cooler from the factory, they left those little details out of the brochure.
it does have a pwr steering cooler as well as bigger brake discs, and different springs and shocks. Mine is a 2009 and has a 2:73 rear gearset
that was changed when the LS3 was introduced.
I added a Dewitts radiator with engine cooler and a motor home trans cooler (rated 30,000 lbs) among other things

Sorry I did not know yours is a 2009. I was stalking about an 05 a4 Z-51 option. What I noted above was from the Little Black Book?

I'm not sure about 2005 but I'd look real close before buying............
unless the price is right and you don't mind adding them

If the "Little Black Book" says it has those coolers then it's wrong. Only M6 has those not A4.

I have a base and did the z51 upgrades to include z51 anti sways, brake caliper brackets, drilled rotors, Power Steering Cooler, External oil cooler. The only things I didn't do were the z51 springs - I like the softness of the base springs and I did not update the gearing, I prefer the gearing of the 2.56. all easy mods.

added info: The PS cooler for the z51 has fins, the base c6 PS cooler does not have fins.
The z51 has an external engine oil cooler you can get from GM parts house. I used a B&M transmission cooler in addition to the base transmission cooler that is integrated into the radiator. Proper flow is Hot from trans>radiator>B&M cooler>back to transmission.

Coolers are a must if you drive hard

It'd be nearly as easy to find a auto vert with F55 than Z51. Add the Z51 sways and you're able to do the twisties with bumps. You might even find an '08 or '09 with a 2.73 gear.

Why would I want the 2:73 rather then the 3:15?

Thanks

The 2.73 in the A6 is superior to the 3.15 in the A4. And the 3.15 is only available in the '05 A4.
