I'm going to change the gear oil in my 2007 Base M6. Some people say you must use Dextron 75w-90. Is that a must or a recommendation? What are other options?
The Dextron oil is GM recommended and contains a limited slip friction modifier to prevent limited slip clutch sticking which is the clunking frequently complained about. After experimenting with several oil and additive combinations to cure this problem, GM finally settled on this Dextron oil with additive and put out a technical Service Bulletin to implement the procedure at its dealers. When I changed over to the Dextron it cured all previous clunking my 06 had previously displayed since new. I have been happy ever since. It sure worked for me.
