Since I'm in a state that doesn't require a front license plate I thought I'd take mine off of my new to me 07. Simple I thought, one screw and the gunk should just peel off. Nope.
Does anyone have an easy method to remove the adhesive before I get out the heat gun?
Don't know about the one screw unless the installer drilled your front bumper, in which case you've got a problem. But the plate holder has four round adhesive spots that bond onto the bumper; and if you have pulled the holder, the adhesive spots left on the bumper should come off with some goo-gone.
Hello. 3M makes a very good spray can of adhesive remover and will not hurt the paint. Just Google 3m adhesive remover. I have been using it for years.
3M makes a wheel you put into a drill, it is like an extremely soft eraser. It does not leave any marks on the paint but gets off tough adhesive without any chemicals. It works great, I started on and old pick up truck to be safe but have removed adhesive from a few black cars, one being a Porsche. If I can find it I'll post the name.
WD-40 is composed of approximately 50 percent Stoddard solvent, which is primarily hexane, a major component of gasoline. I don't use solvents on painted surfaces, when there are so many other better options.
I worked at a shop in HS, and I've seen WD40 left on car paint for extended periods make it peel right off. OK, maybe that paint was old and didn't have a clearcoat, but I remembered it my entire life.
I don't need to "prove" anything, because I don't give a $#it about debating something so trivial. Use whatever you want.
