Default More torque

Can anybody tell me a simple inexpensive way to get more torque to my '12 GS? I have two BMWs mostly stock, a 335i X-Drive Dinan and a Z4 with a Dinan download and both will run away from my Vette. My Vette just does not have the torque to out pull my Bimmers in a 6th gear roll on.

Use a lower gear. Preferably 2nd or 3rd. 6th is overdrive and 5th isn't much better.

Downshift? Or just drive the BMWs. You aren't going to get stump pulling power or match those turbo cars in 6th without dropping some coin.

5th and 6th gears are overdrive gears for economy driving. Roll in a gear lower than 5th just before peak torque 3500-4000 rpm and report back.

Add a torque wrench into the trunk?? Then you will have MOAR TORQUE! LOL

You must remember that there is no way to make these cars faster to a butt-dyno noticeable degree, 'inexpensively'. If there was then people would not spend thousands of dollars on mods to gain a few tenths of a second. Simply put, what Ben said. A supercharger is the biggest bang for the buck on almost any car. Period.

Are you still comparing your C6 GS and BMWs from 6th gear rolls? 6th gear is not a racing gear in the C6. There isn't a single racing scenario I can think of where 6th gear is utilized. On the drag strip you're in 3rd or 4th. On the road course you're in 3rd or 4th. AutoX 2nd and 3rd. Even runway/top speed events you're only in 5th. There are many times I'm out driving and I never even touch 6th gear.

Race the cars properly and your Beemers will not be "running away" from your C6.

I hope you are just kidding when you say 6th gear roll on. In order to utilize 6th gear roll on you would have to be on Taladaga speedway doing 150 mph for a 6 th gear roll on.

C6 has plenty of torque, it just that the TM is holding it back in the stock tune.

As for 6th gear, it's at OD gear in the vet for fuel economy, and if you are looking for it as a working gear instead, then 6th just need to be lowered. As lowering 6th gear and being able to use it to red line, the car will pull in 5th gear close to what the stock motor can push through the wind resistance for top speed anyways (should be close to 175mph), so even with a reduced 6th gear, trying to take it to red line over say just being able to gain 10 to 15mph over 5th to get the car up to around 190mph, will need a lot more HP than what the stock motor even de-hobbled is putting out.

In my manual 6 Z-51 option ls2, 6th at red line would 226mph where I run out of gearing. With a just a tune on the stock motor, the HP is 425HP at the crank, so 190'ish against the wind is going to be around the top speed that the motor will push the car to, reduced gearing or not. In order to bang off the rev limiter in 6th gears (read pull to hard and not just run out to red line at 226), something in the neighborhood of 700 hp or more is needed.

Bluntly, wind resistance at 200mph is like trying to cut through water, and the faster you go, the thicker/harder the air is to try to slice through instead.

P.S, 6th gear working gear range ( short of using it as a OD), is around 175mph that you would shift into it, so you telling me that at 175mph when you would run out of 5th gear and need to shift into 6th, the other cars you mentioned are even able to get to these speeds? Truth is, very few vet owners have done even full runs up to 4th gear red line, much 5th gear runs, and would dare to guess very, very limited numbers that have rev'd out in 5th, and stayed in it to see what the actual top speed really is for their car.

As for rolling runs, see that more for guys that don't have a clue how to get the car out of the hole cleanly anyways. Lean how to get the car out of the hole for great 60 times, and the whole running starts game gets pretty old really quick when you start to add in driver talent as well (read S2000 putting down 600HP either plays site and spin off the line, or end up leaving most of his drive line behind him is he can get the car to hook instead) .

6th still wouldn't be used. Top speed is achieved in 5th.

My wife's Fusion Hybrid will do that ; so what?

You are not comparing equal gear ratios at the given starting speed.

The C6 has tons of torque.

Get in a gear at 4,000 rpm and report back.

I went with 4:10 gears makes the car much more performance oriented at highways speeds.

$2,500 for complete rebuild and improved differential.

In 6th, a C6 might not be able to pull a Prius. 6th isn't the gear to use...

lmao 6th gear roll on now I've heard them all...

I love the turbo 6s in the BMWs but their top gear is geared shorter and their turbo(s) (depending on if you have n54 or n55) is/are tiny so the spool is fast. Drop your Vette in the right gear and it'll beat an n54/55 car unless it's full bolt-ons running e85/meth.

At Talladega you shift from 4th to 5th at 150 MPH(160 MPH in a C6 Z06). A 150 MPH roll on would be in 5th gear, not 6th. In fact, if you had enough horsepower, you would hit 203 MPH in 5th gear.

So if the BMW will go 150, that's where the roll on should be done. And use 5th, not 6th.
