I keep having an intermittent fault on my C6 corvette. It doesn't happen all the time, but its getting more regular. When starting the car, the steering lock needs to be on (it wont start without) then when you press the right side of the start button (without foot on brake) the steering wheel should release and then you can press the start button upwards and the car with start, with foot on the brake. The problem I keep having is the steering lock wont release, it tells me to service the steering column (do i really need to do this??). If i keep pressing the button eventually it always releases, but sometimes I am pressing it on and off for 10 minutes, then all of a sudden the steering lock releases and then the car then will always start.
I read somewhere its when the battery isnt fully charged, but I changed the battery for a newer bigger one and it still happens...
Tracey - I'll tag this thread to see what you find out. I've had the same issue with my car, but the car has a mod that removed the column lock. I still get a warning every so often and would dearly like to have it cleared. The dealer says they cannot clear it...
I'm not familiar with the lock, so can't help with that, sorry. Just for future info though, the start button is a simple rocker switch. There is no left and right of the button...it is a momentary on-off-on switch. The top or bottom can be pushed...these are the only choices. When you push the top of the button to start the car, it doesn't matter whether you push the left or the right side, you are just pushing the top. The same idea goes for the bottom of the button. This has been a common misconception here on the forum and has been the subject of some considerable discussion at times.
