I looked on the forum and could not find exactly what I was looking for to answer my question. I have a 2006 C6 coupe LS2, it has a BBK CAI and a flow master slip on exhaust. It has about 53,000 miles. When I open the hood it makes a ticking sound under the valve covers, its not to. Is this normal?
you could have and exhaust leak, noisy lifters, piston slap, broken valve spring, loose rocker arm ... The valvetrain and injectors are normally noisy. When did it start ? The engine may just be due for an oil change
It has been like that since I bought it, which was only a few weeks ago. It does not get louder. It may just be the car, I read somewhere they are pretty noisy with the ticking "sewing machine".
Since you are a new owner...if a lighter engine oil weight was installed that could increase a ticking noise. Without a video, etc. do an oil change with the correct specs and see if the noise disappears. Good luck in your problem solving.

With a ticking sewing machine sound, the lifters would all be the same volume (loudness). In eden's video, you are hearing one lifter that is louder than the others. I would feel a need to look into it's origin.

That ticking noise is something I would call a light knocking sound, not good............
After I changed my stock manifold my my ls3 to a fast 102 I noticed that same ticking noise. my guess was a pulsing injected that traveled through the manifold and made it louder but now I see it isn't so. So I'm curious on what It can be now. It hasn't affected the performance. but it does seem to go way time to time. after a night of running it hard it comes back.
here is a vid with a rev. i dont hear the noise as much as last nights vid. the difference was last night was after i was hard on the car and it was hot. this vid the car is cold and I really dont hear it. (the noise at the end of the vid is a squeaky belt so ignore last 5 secs)
At idle when it's making the tapping noise see if you can touch the timing cover. The part directly below the throttle body is where the cam bolts are. If you feel the tap on the timing cover then it's the cam bolts.
