As it turned out, that last fix did NOT fix the problem, but was another false positive that failed the next day. I ended up letting three different shops take a cut at it, spent a fair amount of money, replaced the BCM, and still no luck. One repair said that once the car was running, you could see the little bits of gibberish running through the CAN, just could not isolate it.
So I finally gave up, purchased an identical car with lots fewer miles, and switched all the go-fast goodies over. During the changeover they found a burnt wire under the headers, fixed it, and gremlin was gone. Oh well. You can read about the switchover in the "Blown" section of the forum, "What I have LEARNED".
