I'm finding lots of old threads about adding SWC to early cars but none about later models. The older ones are needing another coil etc.
Am I correct that a newer model doesn't need any other coil or steering wheel? Are the wires and connectors already in the harness or will it require rewiring? Is there a plug for the buttons in the steering?
Why this question: I have these volume buttons w bezel lying at home, is it worth to make them working?
Not quite sure where your line is on 'older vs newer', but from my limited experience and more than a few trips through the parts catalog, I think it is fairly safe to assume that if you do not have any SWC on your current car, you almost certainly do NOT have the correct clockspring to add them, regardless of year. In MY2009, SWC became standard on all models, so we are really only talking about 2007-2008 models in which the SWC were optional.
Also, the button harness inside the steering wheel (Not the clockspring - this is a separate harness) to connect to the spoke buttons is not sold separately, so the only way to get it is to find a used wheel with the harness intact, or buy a brand new wheel with the SWC controls, and it will also come with the correct steering wheel harness.
Now I've mounted the buttons and noticed that I have the connectors in the wheel, but the plugs are different. So I suppose the clockspring supports SWC....
