Thanks!
As with upgrading your transmission, it's not so much about horsepower as it is about overall abuse.
I ran stock axles on my car which makes around 600rwhp and the one and only time I broke an axle was when I launched the car after it had 91K street miles and at least 3000 passes at the track.

Thanks all! I only have 540, but am going to the drag strip to drive my car for the first time in 40 years an really don't want to beak anything. Sounds like I am Ok. Have the killer output shafts, Quaife carrier and a diff brace, but one never knows!

And like I said in post #5 of this thread, if you do upgrade don't use Gforce:
The real question is if you buy C5 Z06 shafts, how do you know you are getting C5 Z06 shafts.? I think the ones you have are overkill for me, but maybe that is the way to go.

One of them has a bit of an indentation in the part that slides into the differential but I can't remember which one does. If you really need to know I can poke around my garage tonight to find out for sure.

Thanks! I looked at most of the common places to get them and most do not distinguish between a reg and a Z06, so my bet is that they are all regular ones.
I may just get a pair of DSS 600 HP ones and move on.
Also, wonder if I could buy a pair of axles from one of the major retailers and rebuild them using C5 Z joints. I guess it will give me something to do after dinner this evening!
Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that all C5 shafts are the same. I ordered one from the dealer and he had the same part number for the C5 and C5Z if I remember correctly.

Interesting! Not always sure what you get until something goes wrong!
I am finding the parts to be the same also, but I don't think they are.

If its the same part number, than its the same part. lol.
I decided against DSS axles in the end because if anything is going to break, I would rather it be the axle. I consider it like a fuse. Fairly cheap and easy to replace compared to what else might break.

I thought that too... then the axle broke and when the pressure unloaded it took the opposing side diff cover and my bell housing with it .
With that said, I have C5 axles now... they've been proven pretty stout.

Wow, unlucky.
I have broken an axle and also an output shaft in the diff. Separate occasions and both launching at the track. No other damage caused maybe helped by axle hoops and a trans brace. I don't really know.
How about C6 ZR1 axles? My understanding was that they were specifically designed to reduce drive train resonance, and be more reliable.
Does anyone have any track experience with a ZR1 axle setup?
I know the guy at GM that has the patent on that. They only issue is that they will not work on a pre 2009. DSS did say that they would build them for if I wanted.
