So I Installed my new MGW flat shifter in my Z06 this past weekend. The Shifter itself is amazing and the craftsmanship that went into the designing of this shifter is top notch. The install was very straight forward as long as you follow the install videos on MGW website.
The only issue I have with the shifter is that once the shifter is in gear I have play in the shifter in every gear. Meaning if the shifter is in any gear the shifter has up to an inch of travel from side to side. I have double checked all bolts to make sure that they are all tight, so I don't think this can be the issue but has anyone else had this issue with these shifters and if so can you please tell me what I have over looked or is this normal for MGW shifters?
If you installed the lower box it is the bolt at the far back where his thumb is pointing if you pause this video at 3:16, we had to torque it down surprisingly far but it eliminated almost all play while in gear.
I had this same issue when I first installed my MGW shifter and realized that there was a bolt that we didn't get tightened down far enough, unfortunately at the moment I cannot recall which bolt it was. I will rewatch the install videos to see if that jogs my memory and report back.

Are you referring to the bolt that goes to the Transmission Cable?
I had the same problem after my install. I found that using the guide plate that goes inside the lower box to assist in lining up the linkage rod carried more harm than good. I redid the install without the guide plate, eyeballed everything- and it came out perfectly with no play

I can see doing it again could have fixed the issue for you because you most likely just got tighter on the bolt but to say the alignment plate was the issue does not make sense. The plate is designed to perfectly align the gates and although you can eyeball it and get it close enough ( which i have actually done many times lol out of laziness ) it will never be as precise as the alignment plate.
The key issue here is that if you do not tighten the bolt enough it will slip.
GM dropped the ball on the design here...the half moon cutout on the rod should have been lined up perfectly with the tapped hole in the bracket so that when you insert the bolt, the body of the bolt is VERY close to the notch so as to work as a drive pin. Instead you actually have to clamp the hell out of the bolt and squeeze the clamp around the rod. This risks stripping the bolt or breaking the clamp if you go too far.
All issues have been resolved after talking to George on the phone the other day. Yes it was wrist pin that was the issue. I just cranked down on the bolt and all the slack in the shifter has since gone away
I have a 2013 Grand Sport with 27,xxx miles. I've been daily driving it for over a year now. Around May 2023 it started making the noise you hear in the video above. It was subtle at first but now it pretty much does it through all gears. It doesn't seem to matter if I have the clutch pressed all the way in or just cruising, it does it in all gears. In person it's not as loud as it is in the video.
I've already tried an MGW shifter but there was no change. I bought a replacement OEM shifter and boots but still no change.
I have already taken it to a transmission shop, they test drove it and said the transmission shift perfectly and they don't think it's a transmission issue. They didn't charge to test drive but they said it would cost a lot to take everything apart down there to get a look.
