a couple years back I purchased a mild to wild exhaust system for my 2005 convertible. Unfortunately, the mechanism which controls the vacuum to open and close the flappers breaks (replaced it several times). Last time it broke I just left the exhaust open and drive the car the rest of last summer and then sat it for the winter. This spring I repaired it once again however the flappers are seized up - so I now give up !
Id like to replace this exhaust with something comparable - I like the loud aggressive tone and back fire my car has when open but for early morning neighborhood start-ups and highway driving with top up (droning) I like to be able to push the button and close them up.
Hello again - both of those sound great ! actually I don't think either are very different from my mild to wild which if I recall I purchased as a kit by Billy Boat.
I would like to continue to have the switch capability as I like the idea of being more quiet when I would like and I am not adverse to purchasing the system (just this time not letting it sit around do long as to seize up) I am curious as to other systems that are available that would give me the same remote control to open the baffles? or is this Mild to Wild the only one out there?
you can get the npp from an 08 that will be a direct bolt on or the npp from an 09+ that will require altering the over axel pipes. there is also akrapovic which is also a bi-mode exhaust.
have you contacted billy boat to see if there is a way to free up the actuators on your fusions?

I have not contacted BB - and you are correct, I probably should. My main concern is how many times I have had to replace the solenoid, its an easy replacement but $50 each time. It breaks when I race the car (5K + RPMs or so), not every time but 3 times so far.
If I can free up the exhaust (which has all of 5K miles on it) or even just replace the one side and once again fix the solenoid perhaps that will keep me content for a little while longer. I truly do enjoy the note of this exhaust, and when its set to quiet its amazing as I leave very early for work
I appreciate the feedback - was just checking to see if there is another kit on the market for an 05 similar to the BB M2W system.

yeah...I run the fusions on my 05 also. so...what is this solenoid you are referring to?

The solenoid is inside the M2W control box and I suppose has a micro valve of sorts which permits the vacuum to pull the exhaust actuators open or blocks the vacuum permitting the actuators to close. Under high RPMs it can not hold up and the valve breaks.
Hello all - okay, I fixed the NPP mild to wild switch and it is controlling the vacuum as it should. But the butterfly valves are still stuck. I opened and closed them using a long screw driver and after several opening and closing the driver side now functions correctly - but the other side is too stuck. I am thinking that it might be excessively dirty and next step will be a good cleaning before I replace them. Any suggestions on what to use? can I hit it with some brake cleaner, carb cleaner or even WD40 ? letting things evaporate before starting the car would resolve any potential fire hazard with the brake / carb cleaner right? just getting some opinions.....thank you !!
Well - I guess the brake cleaner wasn't the best idea. It took some doing but I was eventually able to free the butterfly up. After opening and closing manually several times it finally moved freely. I let the car sit for an hour and started and drove off - I made it 30 feet and the exhaust sounded like metal hitting metal? I assumed during my efforts I lost a hanger so I went around the block (1 minute driving) and parked back in my drive. I looked at the exhaust and the tips were filled with what appeared to be white chunks as if it was fireplace ash. I touched one and it was soft but more substance than ash (but not much). any thoughts ?
Also - there are lots of shiny sparkly flecs as well, which to me means cat. But could the fumes from the brake cleaner deteriorate the cat ? I am lost.
