Try to narrow it down to traveling speed / or engine RPM might give you a starting idea. Also I have had noises (especially from metal) travel and come up where they find an easy spot to present themselves. The counsel through the shift boot could be just the best spot for you to hear the sound. It seems to be hard metal rubbing on something that is rotating. Sorry I have no more info but sometimes something small others say might trigger something and provide help. Good luck.

ya.. idk what it is either bc.. i looked at the tube when it was out.. and it was clean.... brand new shaft from driveshaft shop.. did same sound on my old one why i thought the old one was bad.. i mean the car drove and shifted fine.. around the block.. im wondering if it just noise coming from some where else and being carried thru the tube.. all the bearings sounded good when i spun em.. but it def doesnt sound like that.. sounds more aggressive like metal on metal.
I just feel awful for you man. Hope you figure it out once and for all.
Hard to explain my thoughts here, but it definitely sounds like it hits harder on decel (even though it happens more often when you're accelerating). Is the video playing tricks on me?
Does it do it at all if you rev in neutral or with the clutch in?
Maybe get the car on a lift or stands and run it and listen from below.
As others have asked, does it make that sound just sitting in neutral and letting the clutch out? If yes, does the sound increase with engine rpm's while in neutral? If yes, does the sound stop when you put the clutch in?
