Default Column Lock Eliminator

Sorecently my car has been giving me problems on start up, at first I thought itwas the battery so changed that and worked good for a day or two but problemcame back. I go to turn it on and you can just hear a click. After doing someresearch it looks like its the column lock feature on the c6. I guess its acommon issue and i'm sure that's it because when the car doesn't start I unplugthe battery and plug it back in and it starts right away. Just wondering if anyof you here have had that problem on a 05 vette and if you have done the ColumnLock Eliminator. Just want to see if its going to make the problem go away asit's getting really anoyying dealing with this every other day. Thanks for thefeedback.

Welcome to the forum!

There is a huge thread on the 2005 column lock eliminator (only year for a column lock).

2005's were notorious for draining their batteries, but not usually related to the column lock. Since your battery is new and unhooking it and hooking it up solves the problem I'm thinking it might be something else like a bad battery connection or bad cable (they go bad down by the starter, sometimes the lug pulls loose from the solenoid and jiggling it by unhooking it might get it working).

Are you getting any messages when this happens related to the column lock? Post those up if you are. Also, do you have a code scanner? If so, scan the car and post up any codes. And check to ensure your battery cables are tight down by the starter.

Just some ideas for you. The column lock bypass is a good preventative measure if you're having trouble with the lock but it may not be your problem.

found out what it was. Looked like my starter solenoid connection melted. Was a pain in the *** to get to with the long tubes installed but got it out and either need to have this rebuilt or source a new starter.

You can buy just the solenoid and replace it. It's not easy to find the part number but someone did. A starter rebuild shop will have them if you have such a shop in your area.

One member epoxy his and theres a part number for a cheaper starter in this thread if you want to replace it.

I couldn't find the solenoid part number, maybe you'll have better luck than me. I know I've read it on here.

To add, with long tube headers, you need to be a heat shield on the starter solenoid so you don't melt it again.

Solenoid can be replaced by itself...check into that. Also heat shield is a good idea...that solenoid connector is a weak point anyway...even before the long tubes were installed.

Mine did the same the second day I owned my car. I hooked the car up to a battery charger and installed the column lock Eliminator while the charger was at 20 amps charging. It's been fine ever since.

got it fixed took it to a local alternator repair shop here they put in a new solenoid in about 5 mins for only $40. Put it in and car has been good. That was the longest 4 days of my life lol but now we are good and I should be able to make it to Street Care Take Over at Wild Horse Pass this weekend. I'll eventually put in the column lock elimanotor as I see that is a common problem with the 05's

Glad that you got it fixed so reasonably!
