It didn't come with a nut from the factory. Therefore it appears as though its not needed, but if you feel the need to put one on there, then fulfill that need and throw one on....but I am pretty sure the need for one would be there from GM if they felt that it needed it.
Just a word to the wise, be very careful to keep solvents and aggressive cleaners off of the leaf springs or you run the risk of spring collapse. It's in your owners manual.
