Default Rear gear change

Is it necessary to remove the differential to swap ring and pinion gears? Can the gears be changed--want to put 4.10 gears in a 2009 manual-- with differential in the car or must I drop torque tube, trans and diff as a unit to get diff off trans for gear change? Thanks for your help.

1. Gears can be (and usually are) swapped with the diff in the car.

2. If you gotta ask question, then you really should leave the install to a 'seasoned veteran' installer.

Best of luck!

If you're doing the R&R but not the the gear work itself, you can leave the torque tube in and drop the gear/cradle as one unit then remove the rear end from the cradle to ship.

Not going to do the actual gear change myself--just wanted to know how much work was involved and if I could save some money by removing diff myself. Thanks for your replies.

Yep, can drop rear cradle and pull the rear end off that way. I've done it on a C5 but not a C6.. they're close enough.

That is what I would do. No way in hell I'd try to change/setup the gears in one of these.
