Default 2005/ls2.

Hello,

I'm in the market for a ported throttle. I am not looking to remove mine to send out. I wanted to hear some performance feedback on a ported throttle you may have purchased, and the place/brand where you purchased it from.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

J

Why on the ported TB?

Have you mod'd the engine to the point that you think it going to make any difference?

Hence most of the time, the problem is up stream, with an after market air filter system that is reeking havoc on the MAF sensor isntead.

Truth is, if you want to have anything ported, then the stock LS-2 air intake manifold is the better money spent (will pick up around 10hp on a stock motor). Hence the stock intake has all kinds of flow problems due to the way it was produced, and just sticking on a ported TB to it is not going to solve the problem with the intake manifold behind it instead.

As for buying a ported TB, yours is silver bladed, and you need to make sure that the new ported one is sliver bladed as well. Hence the newer models have a gold blade unit, and it opens reverse of the way the silver blade one opens up (your wiring will be all wrong for the gold blade TB).

Also, when the TB is changed out, will need to do an idle relearn, so add that into the cost.

I personally would not go with a ported throttle body. Most tuners I have talked to do not recommend them as they can cause havoc and are not worth it.

Thanks..

I'm just looking for more "response" on take off.. I read about the throttle controllers here and there has been a lot of positive feedback however, I have a 2005 and these are for 2006 and up. I know corvette's and Camaro's are different but when I ported my 2012 SS, the response time was VERY noticeable..

That's really all I'm looking for..

Thanks..

Kind of vague,

Tm is only going to allow you to put so much power to the ground at any instance and the throttle mapping is far from linear between the throttle pedal and how the TB responds.

Bluntly, put, at say 50% throttle pedal down, the TB is only opening around 15%, and slowly opening at that. Once you get past 50% throttle pedal down, then the pedal to TB rates become more linear instead (but still the TB is not snapping open as fast you are pushing the pedal).

So all throttle controllers do is makes the car think that you are pushing the throttle pedal down farther that you actually are, but still at the mercy of how much instant power the TM is going to allow the wheels to put to the ground (and if TC is going to chop power if the tires do start to spin) and just how fast the TB is going to open too.

Now to shove a tad more salt into the wound, on the base model, when you hit the gas pedal, there is a delay before the TB starting to move to begin with (same for when you come of the pedal too before the TB will start to close again). Hence GM installed these delays so the car gets better mileage from someone that is not steady on the pedal, and so you don't buck the car with the gas pedal.

So to sum it all up, although the car is monitoring the sensors before the TB responds to begin with, there is a way to tweak the car so the throttle pedal response is almost as quick as say a carb'd car with fuel pump. Also, the car can be de-hobbled so the TM is not pulling back instant power too. The problem with having all this instant HP on demand via the throttle pedal, the car will not longer be Soccer mom drive-able, and in a novices hands, bank that the car will be crashed in days instead.

To add, and it's my story so I'm sticking with it.

Gm vet/race team designs the car to begin with.

GM buyers price the parts out, loose their mind when they see how much the car would cost, and start value engineering the parts to get the price down to build it.

The test model is built, the race team get a chance to play with to dial it in to have some fun for a day, then GM puts the soccer moms in the car to see if they can drive it.

After they loop the car out a few times on the test track on the first laps from just too much HP on demand/car for them, the software programmers (race team washes their hands of the car at this point since their work is done for what they need on how to turn it back into a C6R car) are brought back in to hobble the car so it's soccer mom drive-able, then go the extra step to see how they can improve the gas mileage as well. Hence in the end, is born the hobbled base model to sell to the public. As for the Z06/ZR-1 models, still the same with hobbling, but at least is least a little closer in programming that the Race team had the car programmed instead.

Can you get back to the race team programming of the car, of course, but if your a soccer mom driver (read novice driver), then expect the same results of crashing the car quickly too.

P.S, It not just the Vet, since even the Hellcat goes through the same soccer mom/warranty mindset process, and it programming hobbled as well to make it soccer mom safe too.
