Z06 Heads
I'm looking at a 2006 Z06 with 31,000 miles. Not sure about this valve problem I've been reading about. If I can't find out if it had the heads worked on, what should I do? Can it be inspected? Should I just plan on $1,000 for the valve work? I heard some horror stories and I heads people had no problems? Thanks.

Might have better luck in the Z06 section but beware they will just tell you to search. Haha. However, you might be able to pop off a valve cover and see if it has springs and MAYBE peek in and see if you can see the top of the guide and see if it's bronze. I would definitely try to find out if it's been done or not. There are cars out there with no problems however my 09 Z06 had multiple guides out of spec at 12k miles. So, it is a real problem. I did the fix along with a cam and couldn't have been happier. The valve train is whisper quiet and I don't worry about it. I had a local machine shop do the machine work and I did the work on the car myself. If you're not adding anything but fixing the guides and you're pulling the heads yourself it's a very affordable fix.

CarFax only reports what they are told. You may have better luck if you run your VIN at a GM dealer. Even if it had a engine replaced under warranty that isn't a cure for the valves, only you can do that. If you have the skill to do it, it won't cost too much. If you don't it will be pricey.
