You may want to take a look at the old master cylinder to see if that white plastic clip in the connection point. Some people have reported that clip being different on new units verses the old one, make sense?

The connection just squeezes together. Some people remove the clip so that they are easier to squeeze together, then install the clip. I've always just squeezed them together though.

If is easier to do if the driver fender is off (better access) so worst case you might consider that

I had a weird problem on my '05 where the original master cylinder side of the connector would not mate with the new slave. I had to swap the end from my old slave and put it on the new one to make them fit

I later tried installing the original master connector with a new slave connector off the car (in a vice) and they 100% would not go together. Whether the part on mine had just swollen from age or was actually different, I'll probably never know. Just thought you should be aware

I am sure you are correct in what you are saying, but if memory serves me correctly, the line splits in the middle, so did you have to replace the line from the connection to the slave with a new one? I have Tick and bought the one piece line, just because I didn't want the connection.

The plastic ends on both sides of the master/slave connection actually come off of the metal hoses. There's a little clip that holds them on.. of course when you do this brake fluid goes everywhere so that's not so fun.

Same thing happened to me, I swapped the ends also. I just took the inner fender liner out and reached up that way, had one hand on each end and pushed them together.
