I finally had enough of the Goodyears. Had local shop order me MPSS in stock sizes 245/285. Very excited, I don't know what the car is going to be like.
Only have about 10k on the goodyear gen 2's. In the last month I've hydroplaned twice a little below the speed limit on the freeway and saved one spin taking a right from a stop light. In the last incident, the traction control never activated. I counter steered like Ayrton Senna taught me and somehow kept it straight. Guess the tread is worn down, they still look like they have enough but doesn't matter. Time for new tires. Three incidents were enough for me to throw the towel in. I don't mind them so much in the summer, but our mild winters here in Houston are just too much for them.
What are everyone's experiences going from GY's to MPSS's?
Pilot SSs are the VERY best tire you can buy for your Vette. Michelins, in general, are the VERY best tire you can purchase for any vehicle. There are some very close second place finishers. But, hands down, you have selected the best there is. Period.
You'll love them. Smooth riding, quiet, and endless grip in warm, dry conditions. They can handle temps down to 50F fairly well, even nearing 40F, before they get really slippery, at which point you need to be very careful. They are pretty good in the wet as well.
Thanks for the replies. Rears still have yet to arrive, very low stock apparently according to the sales rep. Probably get them monday or tuesday. Still excited though.
Got em on. Stock sizes, MPSS, 31psi front/30psi back. First thing I notice that it does look like they are a little wider then the goodyears in the rear. Which is welcome of course.
So I leave discount and get on some city streets. Instantly witness that there is no crash, shimmy, and shake when you go over any sort of bump. Even slow speed bumps are drama free. The cabin was silent up to 40-50mph. Never noticed how loud the gy's had gotten. I can tell the tires need some miles on them before I do anything high speed but they do get better traction in a straight line already. I just goosed it in first on a broken pavement street by my house when the tires hadn't gone over 35mph on the 1.5 mile trip home. They hooked. Which is what I was hoping for most. Will have more details in a few days/weeks but just what I've experienced with them so far. If your on goodyears and are thinking about the switch, do it.
Ok, so drive to work. Massive improvement over gy's. I was somewhat leary just driving the car home a few miles yesterday. But I gave it a full range of driving today. All the drama is gone, just don't know what else to say but get the goodyears off your car.
Traction, handling, and braking are markedly improved. Especially the feel of the car. It doesn't feel nervous and twitcy in the least. I'd estimate I shaved 6 seconds off my commute to the office.
Hey 09 BSM Z51...which Discount Tire did you use? Sounds like your experience was good with no problems or drama. What about price? I want to make sure everything goes well when dropping $2 grand on tires.
Essentially you are going from the worst C6 tire to the best C6 tire and bypassing everything in between.
Not exactly comparable but 3 years ago I replaced the OEM GY A/S tires on the 07 vert for the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZPs and have been very happy. On the ZR1, the OEM PS2s and now PSS ZPs on the front have been and still performing very well. Michelin has infinitely better tires than GY in whatever tire type you look.
I ran some Michelin PSS on the front of my Vette at Blackhawk Farms Raceway last year and they were outstanding compared to what I had the previous year (some Chinese brand of tire that was already on the car when I purchased the car). The Chinese set squealed and under steered around every forget. With the PSS, I could hardly get them to make any noise on the turns except coming down the straight away and going into turn 1, and the grip like there's hot glue on the pavement when heated up. For reference, my car makes 600 rwhp and I was hitting 126-127mph on the straight away.

I looked up that race track, pretty awesome, not a whole lota tracks around here with trees
It's a nice track, 1.9 miles long I think. It's in really good shape too. No gravel on the track, no bumps or cracks and smooth. Look at the schedule come April thru August. Stasek chevrolets helps host a corvette track in October. This will be the 3rd year. I've been to the first two and its growing fast. There are 3 classes so there's something for everyone and instructors to get you comfortable on the track.
