Default 2010 GS Paddle Shift Stopped Working

My paddle shift stopped working yesterday. I somehow got the left down-shift paddle stuck on the steering wheel but I was able to get the plastic piece to go back into place and it is no longer stuck--I am not sure how I did that! However, now the paddle shifting does not work at all. Is there something that I can do and/or "re-set" to try and get it to work again? If I don't have to take it to the dealer, obviously that would be great.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you may need a new left side module. If you are a DIY'er you could do it, the wheel has to come off. Otherwise a dealer trip is in order.

Thanks for the quick response!

is there nothing else to try first? I was thinking there may be a way to reset a "computer." I may have not been too clear in my original post. The shifter now works ("mechanically") as far as going in and out when pressed, its just nothing happens when I do it--Neither side works. You wouldn't know it doesn't work by looking at it, or by the way it (mechanically) operates (with the car being off.)

I am definitely not a DIY'er (and I am not a mechanic) and I dont really know too much about cars either. So with that said, I am thinking a trip to the dealer is the way I will have to go, unfortunately.

I was responding to the fact you said the paddle "got stuck on the steering wheel".

That is not common. I don't recall anyone posting that symptom over the years, and I follow A6 stuff closely since I have one too.

So, I'm just thinking that something broke, either mechanically or electrically, in that left side module and it "probably" needs to be replaced. But certainly a dealer will be able to diagnose it. Please let us know what happens. Like I said, I follow A6 stuff closely.

Sounds good, thanks, I"ll let you know the outcome. What you are saying makes sense. Even though it is now "unstuck", the fact that it was "stuck" and now no longer works, probably means that something is broken......and now I am just "thinking out loud", if the left side of the paddle broke, then why does the right side no longer work either? I am not a mechanic and I have no idea how the paddle shift works, or what the internal workings look like, so I guess it is possible that whatever may have broke on the left side is causing the entire paddle shift to no longer work....I guess.... (sometimes "thinking out loud" like this helps me solve problems, but apparently not in this case haha)

There are only 2 little push buttons on a PC board inside the shifter and the plastic piece is attached with Pins in plastic. Who knows what you broke in it, if you are going to remove it, might as well just replace it.

The Left one is where the "brains" of it are, the right has less parts and is connected electrically to the left, then down threw the wheel to the cars computer.

A new paddle shifter is about $30 at parts vendors, I think list dealer price is $45-$50 range.

Hardest part to replace is you have to remove the airbag, after that it is 2 screws and a electrical connector.

I took both apart to replace the plastic switch part with a larger aluminum piece and eliminated the thumb button part, converting to left pull to downshift and right pull to upshift, the way every other automaker does it now.

For some reason the image button is no longer working, so I can't add pics

Here are Install/ replacement instructions though : http://www.s2tpp.com/ch1install.html
