Default Lower shifter box issue!!

So I'm installing my Mgw shifter and had to use the alignment tool. Everything seems to be in place except this bolt on the picture circled in red will not go back in! Tried getting a new bolt and still nothing.. I need to go to work in a few hours, how important is this bolt or can I just install everything and go to work? <br >

That bolt is for the compression fitting and secures the shift yolk (the thing that is in the shift box that rotates and slides) to the shift linkage that goes back to the transmission. If this compression fitting is loose, you won't be able to shift (depending on how loose you might be stuck in neutral or in whatever gear the transmission is in). This bolt must be torqued tight and the torque spec is fairly high.

Is it not going into the compression fitting or are you not getting it tight enough? Are you using a long enough ratchet and the correct torx bit?

Make sure the notch on the shaft is lined up properly. If you used the alignment tool and the trans was in neutral when you started, it should be lined up already and go right in

Omg while reading this I figured it out. I had the alignment tool in so I took it off as a last resort and moved the linkage slightly and bam the bolt fit in and tightened!! Lol thank god but yes now the shifter is on and it glides beautifully . Thank you =]

Lol yea that was the issue . I probably should've posted here sooner instead of bashing my brains here in the school parking lot. Police kept checking to see if I was trying to steal the car lol

LOL, glad it worked out. Just be aware that you have to make that bolt pretty damn tight. I had to pull mine back apart because the shaft twisted maybe an 1/8th of an inch in the collar and I lost reverse. Even though there is a keyway the shaft can still rotate slightly.
