After a long search for a remedy to my 2006 Z06 CEL , reduced engine power I thought maybe just a good cleaning would help. So disassembled the air cleaner body, MAF, throttle body and all connections. I noticed that the Wire connected to the throttle body on the passenger side(TPS?) was actually touching and being worn down by the pulley and belt , since it had a little slack in the line. Upon review, I observed the wire had been worn down to the point that copper wire was visible through the plastic protective covering. I'm thinking that this has something to do with the CEL,REP!!
My question is , do I have to replace the entire harness or is it possible to somehow just replace the TPS wire?
I was shocked to see how close the wire and belt pulley are to each other , even when zip tied correctly. Has this happened to anybody else , or just me??
Thank you in advance for any help or comments
You may want to take it to someone with experience with repairing electrical wires. The harness will need to be taken apart to reveal the questionable wire and isolate it so that the bad section can be cut out and a new wire spliced in its place as a repair. A good job will be using solder and heat shrink tubing to do the repair correctly. Conversely, if the harness section is just a short piece that could be replaced, that could be another option, but I'm not to sure how short it is, and it's expensive.
I vote the repair and that should do it just fine. Afterwards, maybe the section of the harness can be re-routed so there is extra clearance from the pulleys and belts.
