Default Header and exhaust question

Hi, my question is can i replace the whole set up from (after market) header, x-pipe, and axel back from a 08' Grand Sport to my 08' Z06? Do i lost power when downside from 3" pipes to 2.5" pipes? If i do, is it a significant lose or only couple of ponies? The reason i want to do it becuase it is hard to find after market stuffs for Z06 compare to Base or Grand Sport. Thank you for any helps.

Other than 2010 was the first year for the Grand Sport, if you remove your stock Z06 manifolds, cats, H-pipe, and axle-back and install headers, with or without cats, an X-pipe, and axle-back that was on an '08 or newer C6, I'd guess a gain in power below maybe 5000 RPM and no difference above that. If you retain your stock muffler and weld it onto the C6 axle-back pipe or if the C6 muffler was NPP or other aftermarket, you might make a bit more power than the rather restrictive stock C6 muffler. The end result is a bigger HP gain for the headers than the HP loss for the smaller pipe at lower RPM.

Understand exhaust scavenging to begin with.

So understanding this, you will realize why you make more power with LT headers, or even the Z06 shorty headers than the stock exhaust manifolds.

So LT headers in a 1 3/4" ID diameter will pick up around 25 to 30HP, while the Z06 shorty headers will pick up around 15hp instead.
Note, the 1 7/8" ID headers make less power than the 1 3/4" ID headers on your LS2 or LS# motor, since the smaller piping scavenges better/produces higher speeds through the collector for the exhaust you are pushing through them.

Now once you get past the header collector, then is becomes a mater of exhaust restriction instead. With a LS2 or 3 stock motor, there will so little of a difference between a 2.5 and 3" X pipe and down line, it really does not mater.

As for high flow cats in line, YES you want them about 3" after the collectors, since it will burn the un-burnt fuel, so your not stinking up the car like a drag car at the stop light. As for HP loss, about 3hp only with the high flow cats installed.
