Default DexCool or 50/50

I finally got the new motor back in and getting ready to fire it up. My question is:

Should I just run straight dexcool? Or cut it 50/50. Is it ok to cut dexcool with water? The car is in south florida so I don have to worry about it freezing. Just have to figure out how many gallons to pick up when I head to the header

dexcool concentrate MUST be cut 50/50. Pre-mix is junk anyway.

3-4 gallons total.

Easiest way is to have 2 gallons of Dex concentrate(prestone is good) and 2 gallons of distilled water. Mix in a 5 gallon bucket. Pour back into the 4, 1 gallon containers.

Sounds like a plan to me. I do not have to get the dex from the dealer correct? anything to not step foot in that place

Nope. Local auto store will have it. Dex is just the name of the cooolant. Look for Prestone.

Straight anti-freeze concentrate is a bad idea which is what the OP appears to be implying. It has a specific heat coefficient well below water (0.60 vs 1.0). 50/50 mix results in a SH coefficient of about 0.80. So you can see that you will lose 25% of the thermal capacity of your cooling system with 100% anti-freeze concentrate in lieu of 50/50 which is what the system is thermally designed. The unit of measure for SH is BTU/(lb-degF). Cars cooling systems are sized to handle the lower specific heat of 50/50 mix so that the cars can have reasonably low temp freeze protection and the corrosion inhibitors that are included in anti-freeze mix.

since your going with a complete fill if it was me.... 1 bottle water wetter{1 1/2 me} distilled water get it at Wal-Mart or any food store since your in fla 1 gallon Dex-cool and the rest water, the water wetter works better with more water and believe me it works, put it in first you don't want it to sit in the overflow tank if you put it in last
