Default Harmonic Balancer replacement question

Ok all. Forums have been helpful in the past so lets see if we can help out again.

Doing an HB replacement. Trying to get to the lines for the steering rack. Followed the advice of others and started pulling the alternator, bracket and PS reservoir. Im having a problem getting the reservoir off and getting the rest of the bracket off. The PS pulley is in the way of one of the bolts for the bracket and the reservoir is being a SOB. Any suggestions at this point? Would prefer not to spend extra $$ replacing broken parts.

Not sure what bolt you're trying to get off. If the pump is in the way then remove the pump. You can get to the bolts for it through the slots in the power steering pump pulley

Yeah I was not thinking. Didnt realize it was slotted and can remove the bolts through the slots. Ugh... I also realized that you have to pull the abs module to get to the bolts.

Fortunately I have a little bit to do this so I will be working slowly over the next week or so.

Normally I'm able to leave the pump attached to the bracket and remove the bracket, pump res and lines as a unit. A couple of the bolts are a pain (like 1/16 of a turn at a time pain) but I still prefer it to removing the pump.

But I'm glad you found out to take the bolts off the ebcm I don't know if you can really do it without.

I don't remove the PS, the ABS definitely has to be moved. The PS cooler and lines yes. On a manual, I am able to lock the flywheel down from the driver's side inspection plate with a tool I made so I save time with the exhaust and starter. The last one I did I didn't even completely remove the rack and able to get my wheel puller on using hangers to hold the rack up and off to one side.

ALL wrong lol. Easiest way to swap damper.
Remove inner right tie-rod, steering shaft bolt and pull shaft off (don't turn steering wheel) remove the 2 rack bolts. You can then twist and move the rack over to the left and then lift up just enough to get the damper bolt. I don't loose a drop of oil and don't touch anything else but the belts. I'll try to get a pic if I still have one

Good deal, I've got the same one. Worked great for me too. So much easier than the time I did it with a threaded rod and nuts.. And I didn't have to worry so much about breaking anything

I bought this guy's install and flywheel tool off of him on facebook and I really like the install tool vs the hawk. Even though I put arp lube all over the hawk tool I still had some threads bind for whatever reason.

Anyhow, your method seems to be the neatest and I'll probably do it next time. I really...really hate power steering fluid after dealing with that pump 3 times in 2 months :/

whatever you feel comfortable with. I might have installed about 8-9 balancers with the hawk tool so far. Think mine has a little cam lube on it lol. I haven't had issues.....but that doesn't mean there isn't a equal or better tool out there.
