Curb Alert sensor not sensing

I just installed it in my 2009 C6 and although i get an "activation chirp" when its wired, the sensor is not being set off no matter what I do.

I've stuck a large box 20 inches in front of the sensor and hit the red button, nothing. Moved the box around, closer, further....nothing.

Tried plugging and unplugging everything. Nothing.

My guess is I've got a bad control unit.

Any tips before I ship it back?

I'll try it with the car running this time. Thats the only difference from the video and what I tried because the instructions said I had 20 mins to calibrate.
