Just has the heads done on my 2008 z06. Since I got it back the stereo has a loud alternator noise over the speakers. It doesn't do it until the engine is warned up, then when I hit a bump the sound changes. Checked the cable connections at the battery because they had the ground off, and at the starter, all good. Checked the plug at the alternator and the larger wire. all good, all tight.
Is there a ground strap from the heads to the body that might not have been attached or completely tightened? I looked, did not see one. I've checked the wiring diagram that's floating around this forum, but I really can't make heads or tails of it. Does anyone know if there is a ground wire that I should be looking for, and direct me where to look?
Any other ideas? It did not make this sound until the heads were replaced, and it doesn't do it until the engine is warmed up. The warmer the engine the louder the noise.
You had the heads done - what did they do with spark plug wires?
To answer your Question about grounds there are 12 or 11. based on the MY. On 08, 0r 09 on, one ground strap was eliminated on the rear pass side by the rear control arm, I believe. Or might be the driver's side, can't remember. The stud will be there, no connection to it. Don't think that's your prob, but will not hurt to check these for good connects.
One other - look at the proximity of of the positive lead at the alternator. See if it is contacting the #1 plug wire.

We replaced the spark plug wires with the gm red ones because when we tried to take off the originals one tore at the spark plug end. They were all due. 2008 with 47k miles, they were ready to go. We replaced the plugs as well.
BlindSpot you were right that the alternator wire was in contact with the #1 spark plug, but it did not change anything when I moved it.
The noise does not come over the radio until the car warms up, at which point it starts, and changes every time I hit a bump. Something was left loose somewhere when the heads were done, bit I cannot find it.
I also checked the connection at the battery and they are good and tight.
Yes, and Blindspot posted that already. And as I said in the second paragraph of my first post, I've seen it before. I may as well look at a bowl of spaghetti. I'm really looking for someone that can translate that into "there's one on the back of the head that goes to the frame by the upper control arm" similar to what Blindspot described. While I appreciate your effort, I'd appreciate it more if you could translate that diagram for me.
So i had the dreaded wine after I did a full swap of the head unit, speakers and a 5 channel amp..couldn't figure out why I had a wine when i wasnt even using the factory amp. Turned out to be my center speaker as it was still connected and it was the source of the wine, my grounds were just fine. My case I unplugged the center speaker in the dash (super easy) and issue solved..again no it sure it it helps in your substation but it was the source of the wine for me when the OEM amp was bypassed
Also I used the factory ground on the passenger side B-pillar for my AMP ground
Thanks. This comes from all speakers, and did not do it until the heads were swapped. Ultimately, after driving from S.C to FL and back over the holiday it's going back to where the heads were done. Don't know don't care if they have to take the heads back off, that's how it goes. I could listen to the radio of the way there, can't listen to it now.
