Default Window Tint Ruined

I had my '05 tinted shortly after getting the car that summer. After a few years, I noticed the passenger side window started developing lines or streaks down the tint.

After a few more years, a crease started to form because the top layer of the tint was being pulled down.

Finally in 2013, I attempted to have the tint replaced, but the installer said he wouldn't do it since there was a problem with the door and it would just do it again.

I attempted to take the door panel off once to take a look but it was pretty stubborn and I didn't really want to break any clips to just take a look.

Well now it is finally time to sell my car, and I need to do something about the tint. I may just remove it, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem and knows what I need to adjust in the door if I actually take it apart.

Not sure what the door has to do with it unless there's something rubbing against the window when rolling up/down. Maybe the tint wasn't installed properly. I'd just remove it since it's illegal anyway. You can use a stainless steel razor with soapy water or a steamer. Steamer is the best way if you have access to one as it removes the adhesive as you're peeling off the tint. Can probably by a cheap one at Walmart.

The window runs up and down on soft velcro type material on the window track to prevent scratching. It's possible that there is dirt on the strips causing the scratching. The window can be tilted inward or outward using the adjusting bolts to reduce the amount of force on those strips of soft velcro material.
The window track (#2) is the upper most trim piece, which can be removed once the door panel is removed.

Thanks so much LV2TOUR. That's perfect.

The tint is not illegal. Depends on the state; AZ allows 33% on the fronts; TX is 25%. Now that I think about it, it was dealer installed. I had a fun time arguing the price down on their absurd markup.

Didn't look at your profile to see where you're from. It's illegal in CA where I'm from, but I still have tint on all of my vehicles. Still would be less costly if you just removed them as the new tint will most likely not match the rear or other door.
