Default Magnetic Ride shock replacement

So, my 2012 GS shocks seem to be leaking a little bit. Not entirely surprising 46,000 miles and 5 years on performance GM shocks...being around GM stores my entire life it seems shocks/struts aren't always GM's strong suit.

Anyway, If I replace the selectable ride shocks with aftermarket performance shocks will this screw up the active handling? Anyone done this? Looking at the system it doesn't appear it will as all the sensors for active handling are on the suspension not the shocks themselves.

Secondly, not having experience in shocks for cars that are susposed to turn fast sugestions would be apprciated here. Stick with stock, coil overs, the JOC shocks, etc etc a little overwhelming for a has been drag racer.

Plan to drive the car on the street, 4 or 5 HDPE/track events and hopefully one open road race a year, the sandhills open road challenge.

thanks in advance.

It's actually rare those shocks leak. A little oily film on them is normal. Unless they are actually dripping, I would wipe them off and recheck in a few weeks. If not more than a light film I'd call it good.

Don't be in a hurry to write them off without investigating thoroughly.

with both ^^
I'm at 141K and no issues yet. Keep in mind that they are electromagnets and therefore will attract any ferrous material kicked up by your tires, including particles with oily surfaces. If the particles are large enough, they'll fall off when you turn the car off, but the oil residue will stay.

If you get an electrical malfunction, you'll also get a DIC message.

That completely slipped my mind, and makes a ton of sense.

Thanks for the input.

There's a copy of a GM service bulletin that addresses it here:
