so my cruise control isn't working. pressing the button does nothing and doesnt display any message about cruise control being on. does this imply its the button/stalk thats the problem? I know throttle position sensors and other things impact this but I was thinking those wouldnt stop the cruise control message from coming up, just from actually being able to get it set at a speed. I ask because I'm also having issues with my active exhaust not working which can also supposedly be caused by a throttle position sensor. any thoughts?
other electrical problems (shoot me now):
sometimes keyfob doesn't want to lock the car up but the trunk button will still work, other times it doesnt work at all but if I walk up and open the door and close it then sometimes that will get it working again and allow me to lock the car.
the interior door button has crapped out on me once or twice where I had to pull the lever below the door to get the door to open while inside.
brake lights were permanently on when the car was on. this was fixed by removing BCM connectors and cleaning them.
I'm replacing the key fob battery today and also having the battery tested to make sure it isn't dying since both have been mentioned to cause some of these problems. any other thoughts?
That's a good place to start, with the main battery. How old is your battery, and has it ever been way down in voltage before. If so, you may have a shorted cell.
It appears as if you have had connection issues. ie: BCM connectors
You may want to recheck the BCM connectors as well.
BTW, if the brake lights are on, the Cruise will not engage.
Try disconnection the negative cable of the main battery for 10 minutes, and see if it resets all the issues.
Worth a try.
There have been instances where Cruise control issues are the first symptom of a failing BCM.
These are the components for the Cruise Control:
The accelerator pedal
The brake pedal position (BPP) sensor
The body control module (BCM)
The clutch pedal position (CPP) sensor, if equipped with a manual transmission
The cruise control on/off switch
The engine control module (ECM)
The + RES switch
The - SET switch
The throttle actuator control (TAC) motor
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS)

Good luck
the BCM was recently replaced with a brand new unit due to flood damage. Since thats been addressed and I just cleaned the connectors, I'm trying to either identify the best connectors to attempt cleaning (like the BCM fix) or what sensors are the best ones to replace. right now I'm leaning towards replacing all the pedal position sensors and going from there.

I added the components up above, and I will add the color coded schematics for the cruise contol for both AT and MT for starters.
If you need other schematics PM me and I'll forward them to you.
These schematics are from a 2006-2007, but all C^'s should be the same.

I would plug in a Tech 2 to 1) check for body/chassis codes 2) recalibrate the BCM to your brake pedal position sensor and 3) do a live display of the relevant inputs to the cruise control.
If the BPP sensor is out of range, cruise control will be inop, AH will be disabled (with DIC message) and the brake lights won't work. I suppose it's possible that the BPP is in range but miscalibrated, but then I'd expect the brake lights to be on.
Manual transmission?
Try putting your left foot under the clutch pedal and pull back. Then try to engage the Cruise Control.
If that works, you may simply just need to readjust the sensor so it is making full contact with the pedal.
I was fearing the wor$t, until I tried this. Cruise control is back! Thank you

That was my issue.
I had the same issue when I installed the Tick master.
