I pulled over for a minute, and put my c6 automatic in park. When I tried to pull out, the shifter was stuck. After a while of trying to shift, I turned her off and on again, and was able to shift into Drive. She still wouldn't shift to anything but Drive or Neutral though.
I then got a message to 'service engine soon' and the traction control went off, on it's own, and got another message to 'service active handling'.
I put her in Neutral and turned the engine off. When I started her up again the service messages disappeared, and the traction control was on, no problem.
I drove straight to the dealer's service center. They're telling me that the entire shifter control and **** need to be replaced, and that it will cost $800.
I asked if this is a problem they've seen before and they said, 'yes, on Corvettes."
I asked about the service messages, and they said, "We need to replace the shifter control before doing any further diagnostics.
Does anyone know about a problem like this ?
I could really use some advice.
Thanks, Sal
This might be of interest both A4 & A6 shifters are known to do this.
Said to be caused by bad solenoid which GM doesn't separate. You have to buy new shiftier or do this fix.

Why not follow that video and do the fix yourself for free? A new shifter has the same faulty part and will likely fail again in the future. I did mine but unlike in the video I did not take the boot and that rubber piece off. Just lifted that plastic frame with the boot and rubber piece still attached.

Even with minimal skills this repair can be done for free in less than an hour. Do it yourself and spend the $800 on something fun
