I'm looking for an easy solution to having internal & external manual door latches for a C6 race car. If I end up off the track & have a fire or something & trapped in the car & the kill switch gets pulled I want others to get me out of the car fast. any ideas.
cheers
Greg
I just used the manual release at the door sill last year but have been thinking about it more this off-season. The driver's side has a second manual release cable that is run back to the hatch area. It's just a cable with a tag on the end. I'm planning on running that up along the B-pillar and mounting it to the cage somewhere up there.
Use the cargo cable reroute it to the door handle opening or route it thru the fender and label the car body.
Leave the inside one alone so its there for you if your conscious.
I am actually working on this right now.. I ordered a spare latch assy and cables to experiment.
So far I have a passengers inside lever mounted by my right hip on the tunnel.. Makes it much easier to open with a full door net (net always seemed to fall over the latch when in a hurry). I am also relocating the door button and window switches to the center console for the same reasons.
I am now working with the latch to come up with a manual pushbutton or pull assembly that will reside in the recess outside the door. Will keep you posted.
Last year I just added a decal to the rear hatch "door release inside" and a "pull to eject" yellow tag on the pull cord itself. Showed the safety crew where it was.
I have also removed the rear hatch electronics in favor of manual..
