My brother found something of a project car, an '08 auto coupe with a lot of small fixable things wrong but the main thing being a shredded coupler. It looks like one of the bolts backed all the way out and disintegrated the coupler and marked up the mount on the end of the driveshaft.
I'm assuming the entire torque tube has to be pulled to replace the coupler? Opinions on aluminum vs. stock replacement couplers? Anything else he should be worrying about?
Have to drop rear cradle, transmission, rear end, torque tube to get to it. Comes out as a pretty big assembly and isn't as bad as it looks (I've only done it like 5x now) but does take some time and work to get out
I would use the rubber ones. Either real GM ones or Lemforder if you go aftermarket, do not use the cheapo other brand BMW ones. I've been running the Lemforder ones for a few years now and they've held up fine
Replace the torque tube bearings while it's apart obviously. And you'll need a very large/strong set of c clip pliers to get the torque tube apart
If using the aluminum ones I'd only use one aluminum and leave a rubber one in there so there's at least a little flex still. Just my opinion.
