Default 2005 A4 versus 2006 A6

Which is a better/stronger bet to occasionally drag with DOT's. Am planning to add gear to a A4 car or A6 car with headers and other minor tweaking/tuning to get he car to run 12.0

From all I've read on here the A4 is one badass trans on the track.

If you have a choice between a 2005 and 2006 and 12.0 is the goal, I would go with the 2006. Better diff, newer computer, and lots of people running 12.0 with the 6 speed.

The 4 speed automatic is a stronger tranny!

So that would make a 2006 easier to tune with more adjustability to tune in or tune out stuff?. the 6 speed auto has better ratio's for maybe better 1/4 mile times? like if you compare a equal 2005 and a 2006 equally equipped and stock both with automatics, shouldn't the A6 car be quicker in the 1/4 mile?

I have both;

4l65 needs to be build to use with high traction tires cause other wise will not last as is rated to 380 torque so if you don't want that go with A6.

If you build the 4l65 is my street favorite sense you don't have to down shift paddles to get it in the rite gear instantly you just mash the pedal it instantly down shift to the exact and perfect gear so you just use in drive and concentrate on timing start and this is fool proof in my book.

A6 does have its advantage in gear sequence with a 4.03 fist gear used with a 3.42 diff gear is a killer street track combination.

For the 4l65 use 4.10 diff gear for killer results.

RPM transmissions level 6 4l65 is absolutely awesome transmission that will go for years and take up to a thousand hp.

That's a driver race rather than a transmission advantage imo A6 have better gearing sequence but changes one time more than the L4 and L4 weights less so that if you start a minimum late you can loose with both assuming equal power converters car weight and traction.

And do both transmissions hit the 6500 rpm red line at WOT at each shift when left in drive? The c6 400 horse set up have the 6500 rpm redline versus the C5 6000 red line

Shift points and rev limiter are dialed in the tune as best suits your combo my shift points in my heads and cam '11 gs are set to 7,200 and limiter at 7.5

a stock 4L65E will easily handle 12.0 e.t.'s with a stock tire as well as a drag radial and was designed for 400+lb/ft of torque.with a few mods to it will run in the 9's but even a RPM level 6 4L65E will not survive behind 1000 hp.mine has gone 1.45 60ft without issue and 600 lb/ft torque
