Help attaching shift cable to shifter
I am trying to shift by pulling on the transmission cable with my hands/pliers so that I can have more slack on the transmission cable to make it accessible to use pliers to attach the shifter ball to the cable bushing. However, I cannot with what feels like reasonable force get it to shift just by pulling on the transmission cable. I have the car on, foot on the brake, and even tried pushing the button on the shifter but cannot get the cable to budge. Is there some trick to shifting this way? Something I'm doing wrong? Do I just need to use more force?
Thanks.

Next day I got the rabies out of that dog, I removed the pivot ball and put a bolt true the loop on the cable and bolt it on used blue thread lock.
Recently I removed the trany and while waiting on some parts took the time today to remove the torque tube so to get to the shifter removed the plastic bushing and the pivot ball welded a 9/16 fine thread stud to the shifter arm and bolted the cable loop to it, not having any of it again.
Op good luck with your shifter repair and don't forget safety first and don't trust any floor jack ever!

shifting the tranny back in the rear at the tranny housing can be easily done with your fingers though tough to reach with big hands.
