The shift between 2nd&3rd when under slow acceleracceleration hits hard. When accerating quickly the shift is smooth? The hard shift occurs more when transmission is cold but it does happen when warmed up. Any ideas of the cause and/or the cure?

Dont have any idea why but you can try resetting the transmisson control module .
I had the opposite problem , I had bad "shift flare" between 1st and 2nd and then again from 2nd to 3rd caused my the TCM's adaptive learning ability. It seems i was not beating on it hard enough and the trans reduced the pressures during the shifts.
Took it to the dealer and they put my TCM in relearn mode and I have not had a problem since ....
I also brought a knock off Tech II so I can reset it in the future
Has the car been tuned previously, or is this something that started happening all of a sudden? If it was tuned, it may be the case that the shift times have been shortened significantly and/or torque management has been reduced or eliminated.
Or, it could be that the torque converter clutch is staying engaged on the shift at low speeds.
BTW: Most likely the reason why the 1-2 shift feels less violent under harder acceleration is because it's making more torque and breaking the tires loose, whereas at less throttle the engine is making less torque, so the tires bite better, so you fell the car jerk harder on the shift.

The car has not been tuned. I think I will bring the car into my local dealer. I will have a better means to assist and understand the repair with the information recieved from the forum. Thanks
Cold and/or low fluid levels can cause erratic shifting. I'm not saying that's the only reason, but it'd be the first thing to check before you take it to a highly profit oriented dealership, if you get my drift.

After get the trans to temp and shifting through the gears, very little fluid drained. Added a quart, repeated and got a flow then a drip, closed. Cold shifting seems to improved. Thanks Gearhead neighbor suggested the same.
