My questions:
1) Do these clones have the ability to erase a VIN on a used stereo install?
(In other words, the old stereo is matched to its original car VIN and once installed that VIN needs to be removed and then once removed the stereo will search and automatically match to the VIN of the Vette it is now installed in.)
2) Do these clones have the ability to open the ABS block/ circuit for a complete brake fluid flush?
There has been some threads on clone Tech II this year.
Many having successfully purchased from off shore and auction sites for around $250.
Any instruction for doing these mentioned tasks?
Are there any other maintenance tasks our co-members are finding the clone Tech II invaluable for?
Also I am subject to Calif "Star" smog registration and does the Tech II aid in bi-annual testing?
I am unsure other than the two tasks I mentioned above what I would use the clone, over my standard OBDII scanner, for in regards to maintaining my 2005 Vette.

I just checked my clone against my 2006 C6. In the ABS section there is an "Automated Bleed" option. In the Radio section there is a "VIN Relearn" option. I've never actually used either one, but I bet they work.
The clones are literally running the same software as the Tech II, so they have all the same functions. There are a few caveats: the standard clone power supply will cause the unit to reset if you run the starter motor, apparently, though this can be fixed. Also, operating while tethered to a PC involves a bunch of licensing hacks and other nonsense. But you only need to do that if you want to flash the ECU firmware.
The Tech II lets you see (and individually reset) all the DTCs from all the modules. It also has a bunch of special functions and bidirectional capabilities.
It's great as a standalone diagnostics tool but it isn't intended to modify ECU parameters like tuning software does. This is a tool for fixing the car, not modifying it.

The above post says it all.. I have used mine to cycle the abs to clean out the old fluid.. If you flush your abs ,then relearn a radio ,you have just paid for your new Tech 2 unit because a dealership will charge at least $300.00 to do this job.. Quite a deal I would say.....WW

And I used it to program my neighbors new key fobs on his 13 GMC
I can asure you that anything a real TECH ll can do ... a clone can do

No not that I have found but the menus are very easy to navigate
I have never not been able to figure out where I needed to be

I used it to find a small intermittent miss at idle that was driving me crazy ....I have used it many other times .......for various items

It is a diagnostic tool ... and a programing tool so unless something is wrong with your car where it would not pass the test .......

Thanks.
You will be surprised at what you will use it for ... a regular scanner can only clear a code ... a TECH ll can dive deep into why you got the code in the first place

How will I know the kit has everything I need to use on my 09 Vert?
You'll need 1) the Tech II itself*, 2) the standard Tech II main cable ("DLC"), 3) the CANdi module, 4) the standard SAE ODB2 adapter, and 5) a 32MB PCMCIA card with the GM software.
Pretty much every Tech II kit will come with all this stuff. Just make sure it has the CANdi module, and specify the GM software.
There are also a bunch of other adapters you won't need for standalone operation with your Corvette. But those should be included, too.
Most people don't opt for the carrying case because apparently it isn't very good and it considerably increases the shipping cost.
*EDIT: there's also the VCI module that goes inside the Tech II. It's basically part of the Tech II itself and may not be listed separately.

Reason: Added VCI module remark.
