Default Opinions on cam

So my 2012 Grand sport dropped 1 lifter 3 more were failing and it wiped out the cam,Great local speed shop National Speed is redoing the motor .On their advice we are doing a BTR stage 2 cam because I have stock manifolds and can't afford to do headers along with new ls7 springs rods and lifters along with replacing the timing chain new seals and dropping the pan and cleaning out the motor. In the end we will dyno tune it my question is would you have them tune the throttle response I've thought about a Vitesse in the past and this is the opportunity to do it without the extra any other ideas guys

Put the money you are thinking of wasting on a TC on springs, better lifters, etc.

Still, use the extra money for better lifters, better parts, etc.

I prefer cam motion cams, johnson lifters, and BTR springs...

I've had a stock lifter fail at 59k and hylift lifter failure at 100 miles and both times they took out comp cams...

Well my speed shop has a fantastic reputation with the local corvette club and owners in Wilmington area and they recommended the BTR stage 2 cam and ls7 springs lifters and rods I talked to another guy here they did his grand sport but he went stage 3 cam because he had headers and x pipe he loves his and has put around 30,000 miles on it so I'm going to go with them and see how well it does.

Spend the extra $$$ and get headers as well. Look for a used set on here. Adding a cam to your car will be a great mod but getting that thing to breath better will make it a beast.

I think you will be happy with your new setup, sounds like your shop knows what they are doing. Keep an eye out for a set of used headers as mentioned an try to upgrade after you recover from this round of repairs, car will feel like a beast all over again when you do.

Yeah headers would be awesome would have been great if we could have done it while the motor was out but that's just how it goes.

At how many miles did your gs mess up the lifters.

If you can't afford headers get a zo6 exhaust header to axles for about 300. will allow to get a 228 to 230 intake duration cam.

I'll get new ls3 lifters or even low miles ones there's not that much problems with them that I know about and there are many on here running good cams with them.

Depending upon what you are trying to achieve, headers aren't worth the expense/PITA/or depreciated value that go with them for 10-15hp they yield. Get your heads ported and polished, consider PSI valve springs, Johnson lifters, Katech C5-R timing chain, and look for a cam that is specifically designed for the LS motor with lobes that are friendly on your valvetrain.

I've seemed two recent instances of cam lobes breaking off on BTR cams that were made by CompCams, so I don't have much faith in CompCams at the moment. Look into Texas Speed and their Landis LT1VE CNC cam grinder. It's a million dollar piece of equipment. I'd recommend an 8620 core, as well. Consider CamMotion and EPS cams, as well.

OE LS3 camshaft specs are: 204/211 .551/.525 117 LSA

Cam Motion Torque Titan LS Cam v2: 218/226, .595"/.587", 116 LSA 113 ICL. Usable power from 1500-6000 rpm. Headers not required.

Car has 125,000 so I can't complain I'm the second owner and have no idea what the previous owner did to the car nor how he drove and maintained it.
