Stock shifter? If so, the only time I have had a hard time getting into gear was right before I lost the transmission. Check trans fluid.
Could also be a bad master cylinder, which was part of a TSB in 2015.
It's only 2nd gear. Yes, I believe it's a stock shifter but I haven't been into it to check. This car has a Lingenfelter package on it so I suppose it's possible the shifter isn't stock. 4th gear doesn't feel quite right but works okay, and 6th gear seems fine. This car only has 30,000 miles on it. I sincerely hope it isn't the trans on its way out!
Mine was locking me out of 2nd, but also had a whine at low rpms with only 17k miles. I would take it to dealer to see if TSB has been completed and take it from there.

I posted a similar question on the general discussion forum and many thought it could be a failing synchro.
I have an '05 with a really bad 1st gear lockout issue Chevy won't fix because I have an MGW shifter so that's flagged for any transmission work. Yeah, a shifter is causing a common issue with many stock shifters. Sure. But recently I've had troubles going into 2nd. Very annoying.
So it could be a bad synchro.
Changing the transmission fluid is not a bad idea though. Relatively easy and cheap to try.
Does it only do it when the car is not warmed up? Or does it do it even after you have been driving about 10 or more minutes?
warm or cold doesn't seem to matter. I'm going to take it apart to check the shifter today. It needs to go in for service so i'll have them change the transmission fluid and do the clutch service per the TSB, too.
The bolts that mount the shifter box to the torque tube were loose. I went ahead and removed the shifter, cleaned and lubed everything, and put it back on, torqued the bolts to spec and it's been great ever since....and it only took about 2 hours start to finish. Had I just torqued the bolts, it would have been less than an hour.
Try ranger method to clean clutch fluid. It's quick easy and cheap. I have the MGW shifter and it seemed to smooth out operation all around.
My '05 was terrible. I changed to MGW shifter, a C5 clutch spring, and used the ranger method. I'm about 90% of the way there now.
All made a huge difference but agree with zzjakect the ranger method is the place to start. (Do it until the fluid stays mostly clear. .. Me ~15 flushes or so.)
