Default Texas Speed

Looking for a LS3 418 short block. Anyone have experience with short blocks from Texas Speed (quality, service, etc). This is a street application. In comparing pricing and components furnished with a Lingenfelter 418 short block there is around a $900 dollar premium for the Lingenfelter short block. That is choosing a TSP short block with optional Callies comstar crank & callies comstar rods and optional Mahle pistons with tool steel wrist pins. The TSP price is $5,995 plus frt. There are no options listed for the Lingenfelter LS3 418 short block. It comes with a Callies dragon Slayer crank, JE forged 2618 T6 pistons, Total Seal rings, Oliver 4340 billet I beam rods, Clevite HD HN rod bearings, Federal Mogul speed-pro HD main bearings. The cost for the Lingenfelter 418 block is $6,895. My gut tells me the LIngenfelter 418 is a better bet despite the price difference. What do you guys think???

Surely someone here has had experience with one or both of these suppliers. Both have good reputations I am just wondering if you guys think the Lingenfelter short block is worth the extra money???

Are the Mahle pistons forged and research the difference between Dragon Slayer and Comstar cranks.

Per the Callies website, DragonSlayer cranks are about $700 more than Compstar.

So many other better engine places. I would contact HPR, LME and Thompson first. Talk to them.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the Mahle pistons are forged. I have researched the difference between the Comstar & Dragon Slayer Calles cranks. I just don't know if the more expensive crank & rods from Lingenfelter are justified in what should be a 570 RWHP street car?

There is some guy in TX selling 468ci engines on ebay for not much more money. A road-racer in the Z06 forum installed one and it's a beast. I'd have to go that route personally.

Maybe talking about HPR. They would be my #1 choice in motor building right now. Anthony and Erik know their stuff.

Have decided to go with LME when I dive into this project this winter. Talked personally with HPR, LME, Texas Speed, Lingenfelter. Both HPR & LME were very responsive and patient with all the questions I asked but in the end LME came out on top based on reputation and personal recommendation's from several members of the forum including SpinMonster. Spin has never steered me wrong and my current build (stock block LS3) which makes 532 HP is based on his recommendations.

Good choice. Can't go wrong with LME or HPR.
