Default Question- Porting TB

If I port or get a ported TB and install a Vararam CAI, would those changes require tuning ?

I would like to know this answer. I installed a AFE air filter stock intake with a intake shroud, didn't have any problems. But after I put a Ported TB on I keep throwing codes P0171 and P0174. Both are running to lean Bank 1 & Bank 2. I'm going to have my tuner look at it when he install my headers, cam, other stuff and dyno.

I would say no unless Your porting is wildly aggressive. A good CNC or mild hand porting will not require retuning

No , fuel trims will more than makeup for these small changes at part throttle , the air volume stays the same at wide open throttle so no change is needed

All depends on the porting,

Hence GM designed the TB that shape not for just the best initial response, or just the best flow at WOT, but drive-ablitly across the board of it's full range instead.

Default question

Thanks for all of the prompt replies. I suppose the performance and any codes will ultimately decide.

Yep...if it helps, my CNC ported didn't require tuning

I do porting on GM DBW throttle bodys and found that tuning not require but I do know will help as 25% throttle and below range air intake increases quite a bit and while the trims will in time take care of this it will also be gone the minute you disconnect the battery.

Sense the OP is also adding a cold air intake he will benefit even more from a tune still may not be require but I highly recommend it.

I have a Vararam and my tuner tuned the car on the street under way and he noticed an air fuel difference at speed he had to compensate for at varied speed range to take full advantage of the Vararam design.

Anyone got flow rates of a stock TB and ported TB through the entire ranges of the TB vane by percentages opened?????

Its not only the 1% and 100% flow rates that I would like to see, but the in between percentages of what the TB's are flowing instead.

Hence if the ported TB at some point is actual flow dipping from turbulence in flow as it opened up to a certain percentage do the removal of the air flow shaping sections, instead of a clean linear climb in flow as the TB is being percentages opened up instead.
