Forged component question
Bench racing the other evening and the question came up as to just how much stronger are forged pistons and crankshafts over their cast counterparts.
Two times.
Three times.
?????
No one had an answer.
Does anyone have a definitive answer?
There is beer bet on the correct answer!
Thanks

There is no answer.
Stronger how? Wrist pin tearing out? Top ring land cracking? Resistance to melting? What forged parts? What alloy? What brand?
You can melt a forged part easy enough going lean.

Just speaking in generalities. No specific manufacturers.

on the subject, we have forged which is easy to understand, then we have cast but what is powered metal which gm claims the corvette rods are made of.

They vary from weaker to much stronger, and from holding less HP to a ton more. That is if you are talking generalities.

Biggest difference between cast and forged is durability. Cast parts will fracture vs bend or flex. Cast is stronger but brittle. Forged pistons are resistant to damage from detonation, preignition, & increased stresses of power adders. In street application cast parts can provide long lasting reliability. In racing or marine applications where constant high load cycling forged parts would be desirable.
