Likely the plastic bushing on the end of the shifter cable in the console has broken and fallen out of the cable end. Very common issue. If you're handy you can probably replace it yourself. If you go to a dealer they most likely insist you have to replace the shifter or cable or both at a cost of several hundred dollars.
