Corvette models for 2019
You can bank that GM will go to a mid engine vet at some point since the HP will require such, but that going to require a lot of parts that OEM's suppliers having to come up to begin with (whole design, bidding, the actual production), and that process takes years in the making before it comes time to put it together on the assembly line.
Hence if the C8 was going be mid engine, then there would be so much paper work with requirements/specs going out to suppliers right now for bidding on the needed parts, it would be hard to keep that information secret from the public isntead.
To be blunt, it will be obvious when GM decides to come out with a mid engine vet, since they will need to revamp the assembly line to build the new mid engine model . Since the plant is still vamped for the front engine 2019 zr1 drive line , the rest of the models will still be front engine in 2019 as well. Hence just keep your eyes on the drive line cradles at the plant, since it will be the dead giveaway when they gear these up for a mid engine drive lines.
The current Corvette is listed as two distinct variants: the Y1BC and the Y2BC. The Y1 is the current C7 Corvette, and it’s listed well into the future with 2021 as the last year of motor production. So it looks like the C7 will live at least another three years, but there is no word on a replacement front-engine platform in this document.
Moving to the Y2, or the mid-engine car, it seems like there will be a big split between the three motors. IHS Markit has the 6.2L being the main choice for the car with an average of 14,000 yearly units from 2019 to 2021, with the production of that V8 dropping a bit after that.
The 4.2L motor is next on the list with a projected yearly production volume averaging more than 7,000 units.
Finally, the 5.5L carries the smallest production quantity with around 5,000 engines per year coming out of the Tonawanda plant.
It could be the vette is offered as front for the stingray and zo6/zr1 as mid. Or the c8 could be all mid engine. It's also possible Cadillac may play a role as well.

Hence we are all thinking that the mid engine car that gm is track testing is a vet that photos are being posted of, but it may be a caddy isntead.

So the joke would be on us vet owners, If GM rolls out a mid engine Caddy, years before the vet goes to a mid engine instead.
