Default Prop shaft rebuild.....?

Clutch is in and ready to address torque tube/prop shaft couplers and bearings....! Car is an 05 with 30k miles......going to turn up the wick on the blower to around 700whp-ish. Everything looks good....but is also 13 yrs old. What to replace and how difficult are the bearings to replace?

I'm kind of on the fence. Bearings lasted until 130K or so on mine, but they were LOUD when they came out, so I'm not sure when they actually started going. Don't want to tell you to replace something if it's not necessary, but I know I would probably replace them if I were in your shoes. But I may not be the best person to ask

If you do replace them you'll need a press to get them off and to get the new ones back on. I replaced couplers too but I used Lemforder brand ones, I assume they must have been cheaper? If you replace them either get real GM stuff or Lemforder or one of the other Corvette specific alternative ones, the other alternative BMW options are garbage in cars with this much torque

Here's what I replaced my bearings with. I think you need 2 of 1 and 1 of the other but I don't remember which is which at this point, it's been too long. You should be able to figure it out though once old bearings are off

You can buy Z06 take out shaft pretty cheap, like $75, and they are larger and may take the abuse better that the one you have. i bought one and it has been in my garage for about 4 years now............

Aren't the z06/zr1 shafts shorter due to thicker couplers? Z06 is 30 spline as well

Really doubt you’re getting those bearings off or new ones on undamaged without a press. I bought a cheapo harbor freight one just for putting them back on

It’s impossible without a press.

The shaft doesn't have any splines. It is the part between the donuts.

I bought it form a one of the forum vendors that told me that they interchange but is larger diameter.

Not in my car.

QA-1 was going to make one out of carbon fiber. They said that if I gave them sample, I would get the first one free. so I bought one thinking that I was going to get my free one, so $75 would be a good investment. When it came time to get my shaft, all I got was a shaft. Everyone had a loss of memory.........

How can I hold the drive shaft so I don't damage it, while I press bearing on?

Press comes with some plates that have different shape/size openings you can use to find a way to hold it. Def wouldn't try it in a vice. I'm not sure if I posted pics of it in my giant thread or not of how I did it but isn't hard once you have a press and the plates that the HF one comes with (which are common)

Bearings are not on the shaft, they are on the end pieces. Shaft can be 500 miles away.

Took it to a machine shop to see if they would do the bearings.....they said they could, but it is a waste of $ as mine are in great condition. Car only has 31k miles on it....thoughts?
