Default C6 Shift **** Options

Hey Folks

Thanks for allowing the join and I hope to contribute.

First thing I love my Vette, question any ideas how I can adapt the factory torx shifter to a generic blank. Some pics to illustrate. Factory shift **** on left and my CF blank.
Current shifter.
I want the small shifter..Thoughts

Simplest way is but one that will adapt. Most come with multiple adaptors.

Is that CF **** threaded on the inside? You'll need a shift lever that's threaded...which should be sized 9/16-18 (C5 thread size). You can go aftermarket short throw, but make sure its threaded to accept C5 ***** (C5 and C6 shifters are interchangeable). You can also look up the "RSD snap shifter"...which is a shortened OE C6 shifter that RSD then machines threads onto the lever to accept threaded *****. Lastly, dust off the old tap and die kit and make your own threads on your OE lever.

Thanks for the replies but C6 does not use a thread, it’s torx screw....Lets try this again...

Not sure what you want to try again but most shifter ***** come with multiple adaptors to fit shaft size.

LOL...you need to re-read my response. If you purchased that generic CF shift ****, you flat out bought the wrong **** for your car. I gave you 3 very realistic suggestions on how to make that incorrect **** work if its threaded with the proper thread pattern. Either that, or buy the right **** for your car. Nothing to "try again" here on our end...buy a new (correct) ****, or adapt your shifter to use that generic **** through one of the methods I suggested.

Just an FYI...I owned a C5Z for many years, and retrofitted it with a C6Z shift assembly. I currently own (for many years) a C6Z...so I know what a C6 shifter is. C5/C6/C7 shift assemblies are all interchangeable. In fact, the C6 and C7 shifters are the same exact parts...only change is the **** (7-speed). C5 lever is threaded, whereas the C6 and C7 use a set screw for the ****. Lower box is interchangeable across all 3 generations.

Default Thank You

Thank You again for the response. The answer I’m seeking is in the very last part, that the shifter assy is interchangeable 2005-2013. Punch line, if I want an old school shift **** or new CF one I first need to Replace Part #

Thanks

If you're referring to the lines in product description you linked:
Fits 2005-07 With Factory Shift ****
Fits 2008-10 But Shift **** P/N 51908 Or 51810 Must Be Used

GM changed the C6 shift ****, but the shifter itself is the same. On 2008+, the shift **** hole has a different placement and the 2008+ version uses a chrome ring that is held on with a type of cam groove and pin that rotates into place. That chrome ring is attached to the boot on 2008+ vehicles where the 05-07 versions just have the boot rolled up over the **** end.

As to the part numbers that Hurst references...those aren't GM part numbers, so maybe they're Hurst shift **** part numbers.
