Default antivenom mod

Who has done the antivenom mod on a c6 z06. Does it really make a big difference? What is the part number of the washers and steps on doing it. Have a mgw shifter it is notchy when shifting.

I had done this to another car with an MGW. It doesn't make much difference to me. I like the stiffness of the MGW and have no issues making sub .200 second shifts. The MGW centering spring is much stronger and it is a shorter throw. You have to expect some notchiness. I would try a new fluid like RP before worrying about a detent. That or go back to the stock shifter.

Here you go,

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...or-c6-zo6.html

What the mod does is moves the shifter detent ball out a touch on the tans, so you feel the tans detent into the final shift postion a touch less back at the shifter.

The trans internal lever still needs a touch of dentent to it to hold the shifter forks in that gear so you still need a touch of detent ball still at the trans.

So if you have the shifter **** shaft lowered all the way down to make the shifts distances that much shorter, then may need to do the shim mod to the trans detent ball assembly. Hence by racing the shift shaft in the shifter base, you can increase the distance of each shift throw, and this decreases the knotchy feeling as well.

Myself, Like the feel of the full depth of the detent ball assembly in the trans, since it allows me to feel the final shift into final position isntead (what you call notchy). If you want to feel that final into position notch less isntead at each throw, then use one of the M20 brass shims to shim the trans detent ball outwards in the trans isntead.

And no, since the detent ball is so high in the trans, you do not need to drain the oil in the trans to add the shim to the detent ball housing piece. Just don't over board with too many shims, and the detent is no longer locking the trans shifter fork asssmbly in place each shift instead.

I don't have a Z06, but I did the mod to my 08 (Z51 transmission) and liked it with one washer. Just took a slight amount of the notchiness out of the shifs. Got mine from Amazon:

What MGW centering spring? The shifter does not have any springs in it.

Spring load centering from the dust boot,

Skip to 6:31 to see how to correctly cut the boot.

After some research I have found that the early models had springs and the newer models do not have springs. I do not know when that change occurred. There is discussion on this forum and mustang forums about changing them out for lighter which some say didn't change the feel as the trans provides most of the resistance. I have not tried as I prefer it just the way it is.

Both of mine have no spring. So was confused when you said it has a stronger spring, since the springs are in the tranny. Now maybe it feels that way because of the leverage/shorter throw.

Like I said, I have no idea when this changed to a no spring design. I have been buying MGW shifters for a long time and haven't had one apart in many years. The spring in the shifter itself if not that heavy on ones that do have it. I remember seeing posts about a part that was a lighter spring but would have no idea how to search for that part number.

You are correct in that the shifters will feel stiffer even with no springs as it requires more leverage to move a shorter throw.
